Meet the Downsview Players

We are a friendly sociable amateur dramatics group founded in 1931 and based in sunny ol' Upper Norwood, south east London. We produce two full length plays a year, as well as enjoy social time together.

We meet weekly at 8pm on Tuesday evenings at Downsview Methodist Church Hall on the junction of Downsview Road and Waddington Way, SE19 3XH, and have a small, but dedicated, membership.

Our plays are presented in the spring and autumn, usually May and November. The planning for each production usually begins when the curtain goes down on the current one, so we meet year-round with a few breaks for holidays. We also add murder mysteries and themed quiz evenings into our schedule.

Most of our members are versatile and flexible and will turn their hand to doing most of the jobs needed to produce a play. This is something we encourage, so if you audition for a part and are not required for that particular play, it does not mean you are not wanted and needed.

The team working backstage is as vital to a production as the people standing centre stage. In fact, often backstage folk have the most fun. Equally if you are joining us to help backstage and have no desire to ‘tread the boards’ no one will force you to get in the spotlight.

We are open to new members year-round. It is not necessary to become a member to audition, but you will need to pay membership if you accept a part or want to join the backstage crew. Auditions are promoted on Facebook.
